A photo shoot of newlyweds in beautiful Venice

2025 augusztusának végén Dórival és Tomival Velencében jártunk. Korábban már találkoztunk Svájcban a jegyesfotózásuk alkalmával, majd az esküvőjükön, amelyet Magyarországon tartottak. Dóri építészmérnök, ezért különleges vonzódást érez az építészet iránt – akárcsak én. Régóta dédelgetett álmom volt egy ikonikus városban fotózni, és amikor felvetettem nekik az ötletet, azonnal igent mondtak.

At the end of August 2025, we travelled to Venice with Dóri and Tomi. We had met them earlier in Switzerland for their engagement session, and later again at their wedding in Hungary. Since Dóri is an architect, she has a special affection for buildings—just like I do. One of my long-held dreams was to shoot in an iconic city, and when I suggested the idea, Dóri and Tomi immediately said yes.

The plan

A külföldi fotózások rendszerint több napot vesznek igénybe. A fotózás előtti napon érkezünk meg a helyszínre, de a készülődés már hónapokkal korábban elkezdődik: folyamatos inspirálódás más művészektől – műfajtól függetlenül –, jegyzetelt fantáziaképek, előre megfogalmazódó ötletek kísérik a folyamatot. A legtöbb fotó azonban mégis a helyszínen, a pillanat és a körülmények hatására születik meg.

Destination photo shoots usually take several days. We normally arrive the day before, but the planning begins months in advance: constant inspiration from other artists—regardless of genre—notes filled with imagined scenes, and ideas that form spontaneously in our minds. Yet most images are ultimately born on location, shaped by the moment and its surroundings.

Creation in Venice

Velence a világ egyik leglátogatottabb városa, ami nem véletlen – szépsége valóban páratlan. Éppen ezért már kora reggel elkezdtük a fotózást, hogy minél kevesebb turista tűnjön fel a háttérben. Nem először jártunk Velencében, így a helyismeret nagy segítséget jelentett az útvonal megtervezésében. Két fő helyszínünk volt: a lenyűgöző II Palazzo Experimental Venice hotel és Velence hangulatos utcái. Végül nem maradhatott ki a gondolázás sem.

Dóri Millanova ruhája tökéletesen illeszkedett a város sokszínű építészeti világába: a mór és bizánci jegyektől a reneszánszon át a barokkig szinte minden klasszikus stílus jelen van itt, harmonikusan kiegészítve egymást. Tomi időtálló fekete szmokingja pedig bárhol a világon megállná a helyét. A reggeltől naplementéig tartó fotózás során mindössze egy hosszabb ebédszünetet tartottunk. Szerencsénk volt az időjárással is: bár hajnalban esett, ennek nyomai a nap folyamán már egyáltalán nem látszottak. A képek többsége természetes fénnyel készült, míg a hotelben vakuval is dolgoztunk. A szálloda külön kedvessége volt, hogy a fotózás napjára csodás menyasszonyi csokrot készíttetett Dórinak. Hát ilyenek az olaszok. :)

Venice is one of the most visited cities in the world, and with good reason—its beauty is unmatched. To avoid the crowds, we started shooting early in the morning. It wasn’t our first time in Venice, so our familiarity with the city greatly helped us in planning the route. Our two main locations were the stunning II Palazzo Experimental Venice hotel and the charming streets of the city. Finally, the gondola ride couldn't be left out either.

Dóri’s Millanova gown blended beautifully with Venice’s diverse architectural styles: from Moorish and Byzantine influences to Renaissance and Baroque, nearly every classical style is present here, harmoniously complementing one another. Tomi’s timeless black tuxedo would look perfect anywhere in the world. We photographed from morning until sunset, pausing only for a longer lunch break. We were lucky with the weather as well—although it rained at dawn, there was no trace of it during the day. Most of the images were taken using natural light, while in the hotel we also worked with flash. As a lovely gesture, the hotel had a beautiful bridal bouquet made for Dóri for the day of the shoot. Well… that’s Italians.

The main goal

Úgy gondolom – és Dóriék visszajelzése is ezt erősítette meg –, hogy ez a nap és a végeredmény életre szóló élmény és emlék marad számukra. Közös életük első nagy fénypontjának tökéletes megörökítése volt (a csodálatos esküvőjük mellett természetesen). Ezek azok a képek, amelyeket majd büszkén nézegetnek az unokák, sőt a dédunokák is.

Talán ez jelenti a házasság intézménye és a művészet világa közötti legtökéletesebb összefonódást: amikor egy pár, akik örök hűséget fogadtak egymásnak, olyan művészi értékű fotókon jelenik meg, amelyek ezt a szövetséget vizuálisan mesélik el – nem mindennapi módon. Erre igenis érdemes nagy hangsúlyt fektetni. Főleg, ha valakinek van valamilyen vonzódása a művészet iránt.

I believe—and Dóri and Tomi’s feedback confirmed this—that this day and its outcome will remain a lifelong, defining memory for them. It was a perfect way to capture one of the first great milestones of their life together (besides their beautiful wedding, of course). These are the photographs their grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren, will proudly look back on.

Perhaps this is where the institution of marriage and the world of art intertwine most beautifully: when a couple who has pledged eternal loyalty to one another is portrayed in images of true artistic value—pictures that visually express the essence of their union in a way that is anything but ordinary. This is something truly worth giving great attention to.
